Week 1 Posting – Introduction to My IT Blog

Hello, everyone. My name is Cameron, and welcome to my IT blog. It is pretty cool to be able to start a blog as part of my cybersecurity work. I've started my computer journey young, as a kid when I first started to play games on one around 9 or 10 years old. As I grew, I became more fascinated with them and how they work, and wanted to unlock more potential. When I was about 14, I managed to take apart my parents' pre-built desktop to see if I could put a better GPU(I was able to with research online) when the desktop only used an integrated one. I finally built one when I was about 16 and am still using the same one today, upgrading it as needed. I have run into quite a few problems, but 95 percent of the time, I have been able to resolve them.

This blog will help me document what I learn in my journey to cybersecurity. I think will be a good tool for the future as well to help me understand and track all the components and software I learn in this course. I am excited to continue to build my knowledge in the world of IT and cybersecurity.

Week 4 - The importance of proper installation and maintenance

 This week I learned that it is important to install and maintain the computer hardware properly not just in respect of performance but also in respect of reliability and security. Through the readings and videos, it was highlighted that such components as motherboards and hard drives should be handled with care, installed properly, and compatibility should be taken into account. I learned that such minor mistakes as improperly placed components or improper cable connections might lead to significant system problems. Another important lesson to me was the talk about airflow and its direct effect on the system health. Managing airflow is not only important to ensure a system is kept cool, but also to eliminate the chance of hardware failure, minimize the noise levels produced by overworking fans and to increase the service life of the hardware.
